Obituary

David Oscar Childers, age 75, passed away Tuesday February 4, 2020 after a 5 year fight with cancer.  Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2020 5PM-7PM and Memorial Services Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10AM. Grace Gardens Funeral Home 8220 Woodway Dr, Waco. 

David was born in Brady, Texas October 8, 1944.  The son of late Edwin Oscar Childers and late Thelma Irene Anderson Childers of El Dorado, TX.  David was an all around athlete in his small town high school in El Dorado.  He earned a degree at San Angelo State before moving to Dallas, Texas where he met his wife, Nancy. They married at First Baptist Church in Carrollton, TX in 1970 and spent 50 wonderful years together building their family.

David worked for TXU Energy for 30 years. After his death some words he wrote were found that explained his motivation for the hard work. “I have always lived by a code that was established by my parents.  To protect my family and provide for them.  Set an example for them to live by. I guess I have done this for the most part.  Hope they see me as a role model.”

David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy.  His daughters, Krista Thomas and husband Kenneth, Andrea Knight and husband Brandon and Amanda Childers. David was known as Pow Pow to seven grandchildren.  He was proceeded in death by his father, Edwin Oscar Childers, mother, Thelma Irene Anderson Childers, sisters, Irene Childers Sudduth, Gayle Childers Willy, Penelope Childers Phillips and brother Patrick Childers.
