Delorise Mildred (Smith) Chacon

July 13, 1938 — September 17, 2022

Hewitt, Texas

Delorise (Smith) Chacon, age 84, was called to her heavenly home Saturday, September 17, 2022, surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family.

A celebration of life will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 22, at Lorena Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Rowe officiating.

Delorise was born July 13, 1938, in Terry, Mississippi, to Herman and Mildred Smith. She spent most of her life in Texas, working in the interior design industry. God graciously blessed her with two loving daughters along the way.

Her career relocated her to Henderson, Nevada, in 1994. There she met Julian Chacon, the love of her life. They married in Hawaii, and spent 28 wonderful years traveling the world together. In 2017, Delorise and Julian returned to Texas, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the kids and grandkids.

Delorise, lovingly known as “Nanny”, became a confidant to her grandchildren, who often looked to her for gentle advice and words of wisdom. Her great grandchildren loved to gather and play at her house, where they would always be met with ice cream cones, a refrigerator stocked with sodas, her famous chocolate cake and unconditional, endless love. She is a huge part of every memory our family holds and she will be missed dearly.

Delorise is survived by her husband, Julian Chacon; her sister, Geraldine Lasater; daughters, Cheryl Sais and husband Diego; Melonie Teague and husband Greg; Stephanie Schaefer and husband OJ; and son, Michael Chacon.  Grandchildren, Deanna and Jason Wade; Diego Jr and  Kristan Sais; April and Steven Jewell; Lindsey Jones and John Green; and Melissa, Jennifer and Heather Schaefer. Great grandchildren, Shelby, Brent, Abby, Aubrey, Austin, Sophia, Greg, Brynlee, Jaxon and John Ryan. Great great grandchildren, Finley and Payton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hewitt First Responders, and the MICU staff at Baylor Scott & White for their valiant efforts and compassionate care; which afforded us more precious time with our wife, mother and grandmother.
