Elizabeth Ann Smith McAnelly, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, April 20th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 4, 1946, in Vicksburg, MS to Sampson "Tige" Cargile Smith and Euna Inez Brewton. She grew up in Tallulah, LA graduating as a THS Trojan in 1964 and then would move to Waco to study Education at Baylor University and graduated in 1967. Her time in Waco began a lifelong love for all things green and gold.
Her career in education began as a 9th grade English teacher at Marsh Jr. High in Dallas. It was also during this time she would marry in 1968 and have three children over the next eight years.
She would return to Waco in 1976 and enjoyed her time as a homemaker but teaching was a calling she could not ignore. In 1989, she resumed teaching 9th grade English at Midway High School. She would go on to teach at Midway High School for nearly 25 years. By conservative estimates she would have taught nearly 4,500 kids over this period and each one she considered like her own.
Her love of teaching and serving was put to use upon retirement working with the Neighbors International Class at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. During this time she taught English as a second language to countless members. She had a multitude of friends at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, First Baptist Woodway, and precious neighbors that she considered family. Another passion was Lady Bears basketball games and gathering to cheer for them whether at home or away.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Jimmie Reed Robertson. Survivors include her children Elisha Dillon (John), William McAnelly (Cristi), Lesley Boyd (Bryan), seven grandchildren Emily Lamberson (Andrew), Megan Dillon, Lauren Dillon, Drew Boyd, Lainey Boyd, Brody McAnelly and Graham McAnelly. Last but not least
two grand dogs and two grand cats.
