Everlyn Janeanne (White) Humphrey

November 26, 1958 — December 29, 2020

Bruceville, Texas

Everlyn White Humphrey went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 29, 2020.  Memorial Service will be 3 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2021 with a time of visitation before, starting at 2 pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.  A committal service will be 2 pm, Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors.

Everlyn was born in McAlester, Oklahoma to James and Janice White on November 26, 1958.  She moved as a small child settling in Grand Prairie,Texas where she spent most of her childhood and teen years.  She attended Grand Prairie High School where she began her quest to do great things by graduating that school a year early. She went on to complete some of her course work to obtain her college degree.

She soon was managing the Western Union office and Telegraph Antique Store in Arlington, Texas in the late 1970's.  She continued there until she entered the United States Air Force in February 1981.  Everlyn honorably served in the Air Force for 20 years. She served over 15 years as a Communications-Computer Systems Operations Craftsman and the remaining time in the Air Force as a recruiter.

During her service she received Joint Service Commendation Medals, Air Force Commendation Medal with multiple devices, Air Force Longevity Service Award with multiple devices, National Defense Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award and Air Force Good Conduct Award with multiple devices.  Additionally, she received Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon and Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with service in 1st Combat Communications Squadron.

She was also selected to attend NCO Preparatory Course, NCO Leadership School and Command NCO Academy.

After her discharge, Everlyn tried for a short period in the private sector but was drawn back to serve at the Veteran's Administration.  She served at the Dallas VA Hospital for a period before moving to Waco and serving at the VA Hospital in Waco. She worked as Patient Transition Advocate serving as a conduit between the veterans and their families and the VA Health Care System.  She also received the Congressional Veteran's Commendation from Congressman Bill Flores for 35 years of service to our country.  She was the first woman in all of Central Texas to receive the award. She volunteered at the Veteran's One Stop to assist veterans.

Everlyn had just retired in May 2020 to begin a new phase of her life.  She was engaging in her love of cooking.  She was known world wide for her salsa and meat rub.  Additionally known for never revealing the recipes.

Everlyn was preceded in death by her parents James White and Jan Matlock, daughter Hannah Trate and nephew Jeremy White.

She is survived by her husband Ethan Humphrey of Bruceville, TX, daughter Madison Trate of Colorado Springs, CO; step-father Steve Matlock of Belton, TX; step-daughters Ashleigh Humphrey and Alysha Humphrey both of Dallas,TX; brothers Rick White and wife Tricia of Hillsboro,TX and William "Rocky" White of Waco, TX; step-brother John Matlock and wife Maria of Budapest, Hungary; step-sister Jill Mackenzie and husband Max of Miami, FL; nieces Abbey White of Waco,TX, Heather Moore of Burleson,TX and Sophie Matlock of Budapest, Hungary; nephew Roman Matlock of Budapest, Hungary.

Additionally, Everlyn counts the many veterans and civilians she had the privilege of serving with as her extended family.
