Gary Mason Obituary

Gary Lee Mason, 81, of Lott, passed away on April 27th, 2023 at Hillcrest Scott & White Baylor Medical Hospital surrounded by family and friends.  There will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday, May 6th from 11am-1pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Gary was born June 14th, 1941 in Minnesota to Lillian Foster.  Upon graduation from school in 1959, Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego.  Gary served for a total of 20 years in the Marine Corps, serving numerous combat tours of duty in Vietnam while being awarded a Bronze Star ("V" device) and three Purple Hearts. 

Gary married Mary O'Keffe and together had twin sons, Gary and Terry Mason born in 1976.  Gary worked for The Military Order of the Purple Heart for over 30 years as a Veterans Service Officer before retiring for good in 2015. 

Gary loved watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings (this team let him down way too much!) along with fishing and spending time with family! 

Gary is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian, son Gary, wife Mary, wife Kitty and father James Mason.  Survivors include his son, Terry, granddaughter Jordyn, daugher-in-law Tara, brothers Jim and Bob Mason,sister Janice, and multiple nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Ruby Carrizales and her family for taking care of Gary and Kitty in their final years!!!
