George Edwin Giddens

George Edwin Giddens, 96 of Waco, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 at his residence of natural causes.  He will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread over the Gulf of Mexico near Pensacola, Florida as per his request.  There will be no memorial service.

George was born December 19, 1923 in Birmingham, Alabama to Margarite Hoover Giddens and William Edge Giddens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Helen Giddens Alverson of Birmingham, Alabama and his brother, William Edge Giddens, Jr. also of Birmingham.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Gwendolyn Powell Giddens, and his two children, Georgia Giddens Baird and her husband Robin Baird of Waco, and Geoffrey Scott Giddens of Pensacola; 3 step grandsons, Ryan Emerson Baird and Jackie Moreno of Los Angeles, California, Travis Noble Baird and wife Megan Miller Baird of San Antonio, Texas, and Foster Kennedy Baird and Kayla Adamik of Houston, Texas.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Margaret Giddens Fritzma and husband George Fritzma of Birmingham, Alabama.

George had a true zest for life.  He lived in Birmingham, Alabama for 40 years, then Gulf Breeze, Florida for 40 years and finally in Waco, Texas for the past 15 years. He served in the Army during World War II.  He was a salesman, but most importantly, he was a talented artist his entire life.  He never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who knew him.  His family knows he is in Heaven with Jesus!

Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church of Waco, South Campus.
