Gerard "Jerry" Bernard Steger

Gerard (Jerry) B. Steger passed away on May 22, 2021 at his home. He was born the fourth of ten children on July 24, 1954 to Richard and Marie (Plasmeier) Steger in St. Louis, MO. He attended St. Anthony’s Elementary School, St. Mary’s High School, and Webster University.

He married Mary Jean Kunze on January 23, 1976 in St. Louis,  MO. Of their union, five children were born; Julianna Bullard of Waco, TX, Gabe (Allison) of Bend, Oregon, Nick of San Marcos, TX, Kaitlin (Luis) of San Marcos, TX, and Victoria (Michael) McBride of Dallas, TX. In 1993, Jerry and Mary packed up the family and moved to Waco, TX.

Jerry spent his career modifying large bodied airplane craft. He worked for Boeing, SAIC, DynaCorp (on Kwajalein Atoll of the Marshall Islands), L3, Brazos Electric Company, Raytheon, TWA, and Ozark Airlines. He was extremely proud of his work and loved every minute of it.

Jerry was an artist and many friends and family have his artwork hanging in their homes. He loved to travel and took his family on wonderful vacations of which they hold cherished memories. He volunteered in too many organizations to list. He loved a good adventure and passed that along to his sons and grandson.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, in 2007, his parents, his father-in-law, three brothers Larry, Rick, and Ed, and his granddaughter Marisela McBride.

Left to cherish his memory are his five children and their spouses, his grandchildren Clayton Bullard and Michael McBride, his brother Paul (Sara), his sisters Anne (Mike) Flahive, Mary Kay (Bill) Shackelford, Martha (Ron) Winkler, Theresa (Harland) Horn, Maggie Rodgers, sisters and brother-in-law, mother-in-law, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services are as follows on : 5/29/2021, 9:00 am: Catholic Mass at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road, Waco, TX 76712. Interment will follow immediately at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S 5th St. Waco, TX 76706.  A reception will follow interment at St. Jerome's Brookes Hall.
