Karen (Bergeron) Williams

August 4, 1955 ~ December 29, 2021 (age 66)

Obituary

Karen Bergeron Williams, 66, passed away on December 29, 2021 after nearly 9 years of striving to recover from her strokes in early 2013. A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 22nd at 2pm.

Karen was born August 4, 1955 in Akron, Ohio to John and Gladys Bergeron. Growing up in San Antonio, she enjoyed playing outside with her 2 brothers and neighborhood friends, as well as playing golf for Churchill High School where she graduated in 1973. Within a couple years of graduation, Karen discovered her love for helping and serving customers through selling insurance. In the early ‘80s, she met the love of her life, Michael A. Williams. They married in 1984 and became a family of five with Mike Jr, Chris and Julie. In 1992, they moved to Del Rio where they bought Val Verde Insurance Agency.

Together, Karen and Mike spent over 37 years doing all the things they loved to do...traveling, playing golf, selling insurance together, hosting parties in their home, spending weekends on Lake Amistad, eating dinners in Ciudad Acuna with friends, serving the community through Rotary, The Chamber of Commerce and Laughlin Air Force Base.  Karen was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church in Del Rio where she served in various capacities. Karen and Mike later returned to San Antonio to continue selling insurance & remained dedicated to the church & their bible study group. Above all else, Karen enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, especially all her grandchildren.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Bergeron, and her brother, James (Jim) Bergeron.  Survivors include her husband Mike, daughter Julie and husband Brett Spivey, sons Mike Jr. and Chris Williams, brother Jack and his wife Leslie Bergeron, sister-in-law Rebecca Bergeron, brother-in-law Kris Williams, as well as many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you for all of the love and support—not just over these last few weeks, but over the previous 9 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Stroke Association and/or Jesus Said Love, a local non-profit that Karen supported over the years.

The guest book is offered at www.gracegardensfuneralhome.com where you may leave your condolences or share a fond memory about Karen. If you attend the service on January 22nd, there will also be an opportunity to write a notecard of any fond memories or stories you would like to share with the family about Karen. The family would ask that anyone attending the service kindly wear a mask while in the building.
