Obituary

Our beloved father, Kenneth Ray Weldon, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on April 30, 2023 at the age of 87. Visitation with the family will be at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr, Waco, Texas on Tuesday, May 2, from 5:30-7:30 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at Brazos Meadows Baptist Church, 625 S Hewitt Dr, Hewitt, TX on Wednesday, May 3, at 11:00 am. All are welcome.

Born on November 20, 1935, in Cedar Lane, Texas, to Benjamin and May Weldon, Ken was the youngest of 5 children. He grew up in the rural farming community and loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and particularly deer hunting with his sons each fall. He attended Van Vleck High School, where he participated in multiple sports, and he held the school record for the mile race for 3 decades. He attended the University of Corpus Christi, where he met his wife, Nelda. They were married on May 31, 1957–the first wedding at the newly established First Baptist Church of Friendswood. After spending 14 years in Corpus Christi, Ken and Nelda moved their family to Waco, Texas, in 1971, to continue and ultimately complete his 38-year tenure working with Southwestern Bell/AT&T until he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed finding creative outlets like woodworking and making pen sets and other small items to give away or sell.

Ken served many years as a deacon at First Baptist Woodway, and he and Nelda later joined 15 other individuals in planting Brazos Meadows Baptist Church. They served as dedicated leaders in missions programs and sought ways to share their faith both at home and overseas. They particularly loved inviting international students from Baylor University into their home to share hospitality and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nelda Irene Roberts Weldon, as well as his parents, his three sisters, and his brother.

He is survived by his son Wyndell Weldon and his wife, Yonie, of Bastrop, Texas; his daughter Jan Weldon Roberts and her husband, Tim, of Plano Texas; his son Brent Weldon and his wife, Lena, of Lubbock, Texas; his grandchildren Hannah Beth Roberts Sims and her husband, Micah; Chloe Roberts Bacon and her husband, Matthew; Ginger Weldon Moore and her husband, Zachary; Graham Weldon, Gideon Weldon, and Grace Weldon; two great-grandsons, Collin Sims and Micah Moore; and his special friend Maxine Ingaham.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a donation to Brazos Meadows Baptist Church.
