LaVaughn (Lee) Gibson

July 18, 1938 — October 9, 2020

Woodway, Texas

LaVaughn Lee Gibson passed away peacefully at her home with her daughters by her side on Friday, October 9, 2020. Funeral Services will be 11 am, Tuesday, October 13, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with Pastor Kip Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Eddy Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Monday, October 12, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Mary LaVaughn was born July 18, 1938, to Walter Vaughn and Mary Virginia Lee. She graduated from Waco High in 1957 and attended Baylor and North Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Gibson, in 1958, and they lived and loved one another for 60 years until his passing in 2019. They were an old fashioned love story who truly cherished one another for better, for worse and in sickness and in health.

LaVaughn was an active member of Western Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. After raising her girls, she became church secretary for 20 years at Woodway First United Methodist Church. She always said God gave her two church families.

LaVaughn was the sweetest, most beautiful soul. She was the heart of her family. Her strength, kindness, goodness, humor and love guided her family until the very day she took her last breath. LaVaughn had the love of the Lord within her, and it radiated from her for all to see. She was the most grateful, sincere, and humble person. To know LaVaughn was to love her.

LaVaughn’s greatest joys in life were her three daughters, their husbands and her seven beloved grandchildren. Her world revolved around them and their activities. She adored the classmates from her WHS Class of ‘57 and her dear friends from the Sarah Sunday School class that she was a faithful member of for over 50 years. She had many friends and took such delight in getting to know people. She and Harold enjoyed traveling the world and visited all 50 states together. She loved sports, especially Midway and Baylor, but most of all, she was an avid Lady Bears fan! Cheering them on with Harold and her friends was one of her favorite pastimes. LaVaughn made everyone feel special, especially those that called her “Grandmother.” She had the sweetest spirit. LaVaughn exemplified what a true Christian lady should be like. She loved her family and friends so well, and she will be missed every single day.

LaVaughn was preceded in death by her loving husband and parents. She is survived by her daughters, Lynna Burke and husband, Thom, Michelle Wischmeier and husband, Terry, Mindy Pierce and husband, Troy; grandchildren, Travis and Hunter Bigham, Macy and Logan Wischmeier, Walker, Hadlee and Hudson Pierce; a wonderful brother, Bill Lee, a sweet sister and brother-in-love, Kitty and Ron Merritt; and many very special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Bigham, Travis Bigham, Thom Burke, Patric Merritt, Mical Merritt, Hudson Pierce, Troy Pierce, Walker Pierce, Logan Wischmeier and Terry Wischmeier.

Memorials may be made to Western Heights Baptist Church or Woodway First United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the Baylor Scott & White doctors and nurses and also Bluebonnet Hospice for caring for her since her cancer diagnosis five weeks ago.
