Lindsey "Paul" Sawyer, Jr., longtime resident of Golinda, Texas, passed from this life on November 19, 2021, in Waco, Texas to his heavenly home. His beloved wife of 64 years Delta, and his children and grandchildren were at his bedside. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, at Oak Crest funeral home 4520 Bosque Blvd in Waco, Texas. Graveside service is at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, at Wortham Bend Cemetery 614 Oak Grove Loop in China Spring, Texas.

Paul was born in Fountain Hill, Ashley County, Arkansas on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1935. He was the first son of Lindsey P. Sawyer and Iva Lissie (Gifford) Sawyer, and brother of eight siblings, who called him “L. P.”. While growing up Paul was a cotton picker, a farmer, a lumberman making cross ties for the railroads, a carpet layer, a mechanic, a carpenter and homebuilder.

The Sawyer family moved to Orange, Texas in 1953 where Paul met and fell in love “at first sight” with Delta Simon and after Paul was honorably discharged from the US Marines Corps at age 22, he came home and married his sweetheart, his first and only love, on Nov 1, 1957. Paul and Delta celebrated a lifetime of love together with their three children.

Paul was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for 64 years; his favorite book was the King James Version of the Holy Bible, which he studied daily, and quoted scriptures from memory without opening it.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Essie Freitag, Sissie Phelps, and Cloyce Sawyer. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife, Delta; children, Tony Wade Sawyer, Venus Lynn Sawyer Ogden, Cathy Jo Sawyer Almanza; grandsons, Gerald Ray Allen “Jerry” Ogden, Jr., Lindsey Wayne Allen Ogden, Vance Paul Zachariah Allen Ogden, Carl Ray Almanza, Jr, Travis Colton Lafon Sawyer, Cary Joe Sawyer Almanza; great grandchildren, Olivia Faith Ogden, Evelyn Grace Ogden, Amelia Rose Ogden, and Gerald Ray Allen “Trey” Ogden, III; siblings, B. P. Sawyer, Tommy Sawyer, Cynthia Farris, Delilah Johnson, Fuzzy Sawyer; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
