"Lupe" Jose Diaz

August 8, 1947 — November 3, 2021

Waco, Texas

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lupe Jose Diaz who passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2021, at the age of 74. A funeral mass will be 2:00 pm, Friday, November 5, 2021 at Sacred Heart.  A visitation will be 6-7:30 pm, Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home  with a rosary at 7:30

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Diaz; his siblings, Carmen Ruby and husband Scott, Robert Diaz and wife Mary, Domingo Diaz and wife Ruth, Jesse Diaz and wife Debbie, Candido Diaz and wife Pam, Felix Diaz, Elonore Bishop and husband Mike, Tina Chavez and husband Martin, Teresa Morales and husband Arturo, Alexandra Jones and husband Rob; his children, Ronaldo E. Diaz, Richard D. Diaz and Louis Arechiga II; his grandchildren Louis Arechiga III, Howard Arechiga and Jenni Arechiga. He is also survived by a very loving extended family consisting of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews, and great friends.

Lupe had many accomplishments throughout his career including: Degree in Business from McLennan Community College in 1969, Employed by MclennanCommunity College for 18 years, Employed by Waco ISD for 13 years, Election for the Board of Directors for Educators Credit Union in 1990, Certified Texas School Business Specialist program in 1993, 7 State of Texas Certification Completions, 5 Achievement Awards for the Public Education Seminar in 2001, Certificate of Completion of the Engineering Program at the University of Texas at Austin in 2003, Employed by Brazos River Authority in 2001 until he retired in 2017.

Aside from his accomplishments at work, he was a proud family man. He enjoyed taking trips to various vacation spots with his wife, friends and grandson. He had a love for dancing to his favorite Tejano music with his wife. He loved to cook a good steak and host holidays at his house with all of his family and friends with his famous blue margarita in hand. Behind the scenes Lupe thoroughly enjoyed playing pool and doing yard work with his grandson, Louis. He often talked about his work ethic which he proclaims derived from his Grandfather Juan and Uncle Nato.

Script from a draft of Lupes final words: “ I was blessed with having great friends like Rose and Emmett, Rosie and Eli, Oscar, Gloria and others. Family…what a family. I couldn’t of asked to be part of a better family than the Torrez family….Stephanie, Jessica, Gabriel, Big MawMaw, Little Joe (who aintlittle), the Twins and you too April.  I love you babe (Virginia). Love you Ron and Richard and love you too Louis!”
