October 2, 1927 ~ May 17, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old
Mamie Lee Lavender of Hewitt, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 95. Services will be at 12 noon Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr. A visitation will be the hour prior the service.
Mamie Lee was born October 2, 1927 to James Pressley and Jessie Mary (Lewis) Robinson. Mamie Lee grew up in Streetman, Texas. When she graduated from high school in 1944 she was salutatorian of her class. She worked for several years following high school before enrolling in the Nurse Corps Cadet School at Hillcrest Hospital. While in nursing school she also attended Baylor University.
While taking her nursing classes she met the love of her life, Wallace Lavender; 3 months later they were married on February 22, 1947, they were blessed with three children, Donna, Curtis and Ronald. Mamie Lee worked at Hillcrest Hospital in the Emergency Room as a LVN over 40 years.
Preceding her in death was her husband Wallace, daughter-in-law Sandra, her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Rowe, son Curtis Lavender and wife Janie, and son Ronald Lavender; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their appreciation to all the many staff members and nurses of Stoney Brook for the past year and half and also to Bluebonnet Hospice for their loving care over the last few days.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hewitt Methodist Church, Hewitt, Tx.
