Ronald "Ron" Vaughan

January 28, 1937 — November 9, 2020

McGregor, Texas

Ronald "Ron" Vaughan, a long time McGregor resident, passed away Monday evening November 9, 2020, at the age of 83. He was born on January 28th, 1937 in Goldthwaite, TX.  The life of the renowned artist will be honored by his family on Sunday November 15, 2020, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Madison St. McGregor, Texas 76657.  The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Victoria Gebert.  The family hopes to share in a future celebration of his life with all of those that loved him and his loving wife Geneva.

Family and friends knew him as Ron, Ronnie, Daddy, Papa, Papaw, Honey Bunny and Sweetheart. Though his accomplishments in life were many, his love for his wife Geneva and his family superseded all of that stuff.

He, as the Irish say, was a “character”. In a sly quiet understated performance, he loved entertaining us all with wild tales and silliness. Such a master of entertainment, we eagerly
anticipated a wonderful adventure anytime we got together. And to all his grandchildren out there who enjoyed spending the night snuggled in one of his cozy T-shirts. Chomp, chomp!
Now, for the rest of his story....

While attending middle school n Waco TX, Ronnie showed an interest is singing. Upon hearing his wonderful voice, the teacher quickly steered young Ronnie toward art.

Ron’s artistic ability continued to blossom in the classes he attended at Waco High School, from which he graduated in 1955. He was awarded a scholarship to pursue his artistic gift but
had the foresight to join the Air Force where he began his first career in data processing.

After joining the Air Force, Ron became an IBM specialist. Half way thru his enlistment, he met the love of his life Geneva Yvonne Snipes. Due to Ron’s and Geneva’s sisters matchmaking efforts they met and would later elope on February 9, 1958.

After Ron served our country, his career in data processing continued into the private sector, where he spent many years primarily working for North American Rockwell and then
Rocketdyne. The punch chips from this career proved to be perfect confetti thrown by his children at the many McGregor Bulldog football games he loved to attend with his family.

Once an artist, ever an artist, Ron took an early retirement to pursue art as a career in the early 1970’s. Ron experimented with many artistic mediums over the years but his self taught
technique of Texas Impressionism presented a mastery that continues to amaze.

Ron is preceded in death by parents Don and Mona Odessa Vaughan as well as brothers Lynn, Danny and Gary.

He is survived by his wife Geneva, children Ronald Rudolph Vaughan Jr and wife Kimberly, Gena Vaughan Hankins and husband Patrick, Rebecca Vaughan Clarkson and husband
Christopher, Raymond Randall Vaughan and his wife Laura and by his sisters Donna Floyd and Tamara Bates.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Leah, Clarissa, Ariana, Allison, Christy, Casey, Carri, Andrew, Ronnie, Hudson, and Veronica as well as his many nieces, nephews and great-grand-children.

For now, Ron, Ronnie, Daddy, Papa, Papaw, Honey Bunny, Sweetheart we look forward to seeing you in the here after.
