Lorena, Texas

Ruth Myree Taylor Tilghman, 63, of Lorena, Texas passed away Friday, February 5, 2021, at Providence Hospital as a result of complications from an extended illness.  There will be a remembrance celebration of her life at a later date.

Ruth was born on November 5, 1957, in Hico, Texas.  She was the middle child of Earl Raymond Taylor and Elizabeth Estes Taylor.  Her early years were spent in Fort Worth, Texas, and she graduated from Richland High School in 1976.

Ruth was an adventurous and creative spirit, as well as an accomplished pianist.  As a child, she painted and enjoyed writing poetry from an early age.  Her 3rd grade teacher even put together a booklet of Ruth’s poems.  Writing was something she enjoyed throughout her life, and in the last few years of her life, she had a children’s book that she wanted to publish.

Nature and the outdoors were also lifelong interests.  Ruth thoroughly enjoyed riding her horse, Ajax.  In high school, she enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball.  Throughout her life, Ruth loved to spend time at the stock tanks on her grandmother’s land and fish for hours. Ruth always had a heart for animals, and she had an unusual menagerie of pets through the years.  She was a master gardener, and frequently thought of unique culinary and artistic uses for her plants.  Ruth had a big heart and empathy for friends in need.  She always loved spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Ray Taylor, her grandparents, Lloyd H. Taylor, Sr., Myrtie Ruth Wooldridge Taylor, Elizabeth Williams Estes, and John Claude Estes.

She is survived by her former spouse, Bill Tilghman; daughter, Halley Rae Taylor Kirkland; brother, Ross Taylor, sister, Beth Taylor Musgrave and her husband Pat; grandchildren, Loryn Ashley Kellum, Anthony Raymond Kellum, and Cash Rooster Kirkland; nephews, Jordan Musgrave and his wife Priscilla Tsai, Taylor Musgrave and Travis Musgrave; aunt, Rosalis Estes; cousins, Rosanne and Martin Zapp, Cris Baldridge, Robyn and Malcolm Foster, Ryan Baldridge, Carol and Dave Turner, Brooks Williams, Shap and Leann Williams, and several other cousins.  Honorary pallbearers are Anthony Kellum, Cash Kirkland, Jordan Musgrave, Taylor Musgrave, Travis Musgrave, Pat Musgrave, Ryan Baldridge, Brooks Williams, Shap Williams, and Dave Turner.

The family wants to thank all of the health care professionals for all of their hard work, dedication, and kindness.  They request any memorials be sent to the Lorena Cemetery Association (PO Box 51, Lorena, TX 76655), the Waco Zoo, or a charity of your choice.
