Stephen Duane Patrick

1950 — 2022

McGregor, Texas

Stephen D. Patrick, US Navy Veteran, was met with “Fair Winds and Following Seas” in his final days and is now on Eternal Patrol.  Steve was surrounded by the ones he loved the most: his wife Gloria, his son Kevin and wife Deena, his daughter Katie and wife Jesse, his brother Kenny, his sister-in-law Polly and husband Jerry Johnson, and all of his grandchildren: William, Colleen, Henrietta, and Stephen. He spent his final days in his favorite place, his porch sitting in the sunshine, while visiting with family and friends.

His brother Doug and wife Dot, sister-in-law Linda, and his other in-laws Ralph Medart, Joyce and Jack Hennig, and multiple nieces and nephews all offered him comfort and prayers from afar.  He was also comforted by his former wife Cindy Frasier and the wonderful team of Community Healthcare of Texas/Providence Hospice who provided amazing care and support so his final days were free of suffering.

As a young boy from Indiana, born in 1950, his family relocated to Waco, TX in 1960.  Steve is known amongst the 5 children as being the worker bee.  As a boy he had a paper route and mowed lawns to earn money but his first job was at Piggly Wiggly where he worked until he joined the Navy.  After proudly serving as a Petty Officer aboard the USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN-630) from 1968-1971 (Cold War Era), he was honorably discharged.  He returned to Waco and worked on motorcycles before he opened his first business, Steve’s Cycle Shop.  He later found his true calling in helping local families build their dream homes.  Being in business for 49 years, chances are everyone in Waco has been inside either a home or office built by his hands!

Steve believed in working hard and playing hard.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends traveling the world, cruising the seas, and showing off his luck at the slot machines.  Steve also had a true servant's heart.  He was an active philanthropist in local charities and an active member of his church.  He saw a true need in the community so he created a medical ministry for people to have access to medical equipment through his church.

Steve was welcomed into heaven by his savior Jesus Christ and was met at the pearly gates by his mother Jackie and stepfather Jimmy, brother Mike, sister Vivian, and niece Wendy, in addition to several friends.  His family will be welcoming all of his friends at a service honoring his memory on June 23rd at Woodway First United Methodist Church (21000 Woodway Drive, Woodway, TX 76712) at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s memory to American Valor Foundation or Woodway First United Methodist Church.
